Modified Closed PrimaryApril 30, 2010 - Now that we have sample ballots out in the mail (we have reports of them arriving at voters homes this evening) - we thought it would be a good time to remind voters that California uses a modified closed primary system. So what does this mean for voters? This primary system requires voters to cast a ballot of the qualified political party they chose to affiliate with when they registered to vote. Voters who chose not to affiliate with a party when they registered to vote will receive a non-partisan ballot, or they may request a Democratic or Republican ballot (which can be done at their poll site or by choosing this when they request a vote-by-mail ballot). Voters still have the option of changing their party affiliation and voting another party´s ballot by re-registering and selecting another party by May 24th. You can check your registration status by clicking here.
