Orange County Candidates Strongly Encouraged to File Online

Filing online will allow candidates to stay safe and healthy - candidate filing will begin Monday, July 13, 2020.

SANTA ANA, CA – June 25, 2020 – In preparation for candidate filing under COVID-19 restrictions, the Orange County Registrar of Voters is encouraging electronic filing options for candidates who wish to run for office in the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election. Candidate filing begins on Monday, July 13, 2020 at 8:00 am and concludes on August 7, 2020 at 5:00 pm.

As the first online candidate filing portal in California in 2010, the Orange County Registrar of Voters is highlighting its online candidate filing system to showcase how candidates can complete their filing paperwork safely and thoroughly. Through this online system, candidates will be able to download, print and complete all forms (including the Declaration of Candidacy) in the comfort of their own homes. Candidates have the option of taking the Oath of Office via a notary service or by using a video conferencing service with Registrar of Voters’ staff. Another option available to candidates is to receive documents via email or regular mail. If candidates prefer to file in-person, appointments are highly recommended. Walk-ins are welcome; however, wait times may occur as physical distancing requirements and limitations are implemented.

Candidates can make an appointment online during business hours at ocvote.com/appointments.  Completed documents with original signatures MUST be received by the Registrar of Voters by the close of the nomination period at 5:00 p.m. on August 7, 2020 in order for the candidate to be qualified for the ballot. For convenience, there will be a secure drop box located in the courtyard outside of the Registrar of Voters’ office for candidates to drop off their completed nomination forms.

Quote by Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley:

"My office is encouraging candidates to take advantage of the online candidate filing portal. By doing so, candidates will have the opportunity to remain safe and healthy while taking the necessary steps and completing paperwork in order to run for office.”

All voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot in the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election allowing them to vote safely at home and all voters can check their registration, re-register, and register to vote at ocvote.com. For more information, call 714-567-7600 or visit ocvote.com.
